The Explosion by Andrzej Wajda is videomapping made for 75th anniversary of the outbreak of the Second World War. Spectacle took place on 1st and 2nd of September 2014 in Gdansk and it was huge: 80 meters width, screening on the rounded walls of former gas tank. This multimedia performance is a modern counterpart to the Panorama of the Battle of Raclawice painting.
In this project I was responsible for making animation, using unique archival photographs as well as documentary films from Museum’s archive and moreover scenes from films directed by Andrzej Wajda. With other animators from Nolabel studio we made moving story of the outbreak of the war and first days, as best as we could. Along with 3D effects, ink concept, visual effects and of course spectacular sound, The Explosion made atmosphere of tension of the last days of peace and feeling of incoming conflict. Project was made in New Amsterdam & Nolabel Studio for Museum of the Second World War in Gdansk which now is under development. I was very pleased to met and work with Andrzej Wajda.
